Phil Reale Serving Mary Baab Randolph Cancer Center

On April 16-20 Phil Reale joined other members of the Visiting Committee of the Mary Baab Randolph Cancer Center of West Virginia University to lead the 30th Anniversary Cancer Center Gala at The Greenbrier Resort.  This special 30th Anniversary event produced the largest crowd ever for the annual gala.  Special honorees for commitment and dedication to cancer research included none other than WVU head basketball coach and national collegiate basketball coach of the year, Bob Huggins.  Coach Huggins has been responsible for raising over $1 million for the Mary Baab Randolph Cancer Center for cancer research purposes.  Phil Reale functioned as the master of ceremonies for special events on each of the days of the gala weekend.

Phil Reale led a delegation of West Virginia beer and wine distributors to the nation’s capitol for the annual legislative conference of the National Beer Wholesaler’s Association on April 26-29.  Among the many educational opportunities afforded members of the WV Beer and Wine Association attending the event, there was included capitol hill visits with U.S. Senators Manchin and Capito, along with Congressmen McKinley, Mooney, and Jenkins, all from West Virginia. Reale led discussions on various policy matters affecting the beer industry.

Phil Reale – Natural Born Leader

During his time in high school, Phil Reale became actively involved in the basketball and football teams. Reale would also demonstrate strong leadership skills and a natural drive, determination, and talent that made him an excellent candidate for team captain, all while maintaining a high GPA. Phil strived to keep his life balanced while being stretched from his academic life to his social life. He became captain of both his high school basketball and football team. Phil also became president of the student body, both in high school and college. It became apparent from an early age that Phil was a natural born leader, and had what it took to guide people down the proper path.

Phil Reale – Born to be a leader

Phil Reale was born in West Virginia on March 31, 1952 and has worked hard his entire life to make a positive impact on his community. Throughout his career, Phil has looked to his parents as sources of inspiration to help guide through many obstacles. Phil’s father was an immigrant, and showed Phil the meaning behind a hard day’s work and the fruits that one could cultivate from those efforts, while Phil’s mother taught him the importance of education. With these two as his parents, his aptitude to work and his desire to learn made him unstoppable, and ultimately lead him to becoming the skilled and versatile lawyer he is today.

Phil Reale has had a long and impressive career in law where he has received many recognitions for public services to the community. Phil was named one of the Best Lawyers in America for four years in a row in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014, an award that Phil says has been a true honor, as he knew it was one that was not handed out indiscriminately. Phil also won the Distinguished West Virginian Award twice, in 1990 and 1995, which is the highest award the state government can give to a citizen. Reale says that a passion and compassion for commitment to one’s community has been a driving force behind his ambition, and stretches him to try harder.

Throughout the years, Phil Reale has been able to prove over and over again that his abilities to take the reins and become a leader in various settings was successful and helped him obtain the compassion he felt he needed to be better at his job.

Phil Reale: Politician and Philanthropist

Phil Reale’s educational background, as well as his many roles as a leader and trend setter both in his youth and subsequent career made politics a natural and simple transition for Phil. With Phil’s discipline, no nonsense work ethic, and an ambition to serve his state and community, Phil would soon find himself becoming a primary player in West Virginia politics. During the 1990’s Phil was appointed to the WV College System Board of Directors and was a two time chairperson of the organization. This appointment was awarded after a tenure-ship with Governor Gaston Caperton of West Virginia. Working with Governer Gaston Phil says, was a wonderful and eye opening experience for him. While working for Gaston, Phil held the position of Chief of Staff, and learned the skills necessary to help aid in government operations both state and local. Phil says that experiences such as these were vital in furthering his understanding of politics, legislative processes and the operational nuances of state government.

Phil Reale has become closely involved with the Mary Baab Randolph Cancer Center at West Virginia University. The Mary Baab Randolp Cancer Center is an excellent cancer research, prevention, and treatment facility that dedicated to battling various cancers. The center has a national reputation for success, and has been recognized by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer for providing some of the best cancer care and treatment in the entire nation. The scientific research that occurs within the cancer center nurtures interactions between basic, clinical, and population sciences, all designed to help find ways to cure cancer both in the individual, and society as a whole. Moreover, as a member of the Visiting Committee for the Mary Baab Randolph Cancer Center, Phil is very proud of the clinical trials work being performed by doctors and scientists at the Center.

Phil Reale and his law firm assumed responsibility for the administrative and executive functions for the WV Beer and Wine Association following two years of Phil and his staff providing excellent government relations services to the Association.   Under Phil’s leadership, he hopes to improve internal communications within the Association, increase member education on important issues, and elevate knowledge about the beer and wine distribution industry to state leaders, as well as continue to provide a number of charitable services to the community that help contribute to overall safety and responsible consumption. Phil Reale: Commitment to Excellence

Phil Reale was not just avid about his scholastic career, but knew from a young age that the mind can only stay as sharp as the body, and vice versa. Phil Reale has had the luxury of enjoying a long and impressive career in law, one where he has received quite a few noteworthy accolades and recognition along the way. For example, in 2011, Phil was awarded one of the most prestigious accolades one can acquire. Last but not least, Phil says that a passion, and genuine concern for the well-being of both the individual, and collective humanity has also been a driving force behind his ambition, as Phil believes the true measure of a man is not what he has accomplished himself , but what he has accomplished for others.

Phil Reale: Golf Enthusiast

Phil Reale is a hard working individual who dedicated himself to his family, his career, his community and the task at hand. Phil’s methodical and strategic approach to his work is precisely why he and his law firm have been so successful in representing clients in the government affairs arena. Still, everyone must have life outside of work. Phil’s hobby, is golf. Since he was a child, Phil was always interested in competitive sports, and in high school was captain of both the basketball and football team. It wasn’t until later in life though that he would discover his passion for golf. Over the years, Phil became very well acquainted with the game. Never one to sit on the sidelines though, Phil soon immersed himself in the heart of the game himself, making several contributions to the sport itself. Phil was a Vice Chair for Competitions for the inaugural Greenbrier Classic PGA tour event in West Virginia, and helped to coordinate the participation of over 2000 volunteers, including himself of course. Phil used his experience and leadership skills obtained through his profession to help contribute in meaningful ways to his community, and the sport he loved.

 

Phil is a man who once passionate about something, becomes consumed by it, and gives his all to help improve it. That is why Phil dedicates considerable time as a member of the West Virginia Golf Association Executive Committee, the governing body for amateur golf in West Virginia. Phil is especially proud of the work of the West Virginia Golf Association Executive Committee to oversee amateur championship golf for both men and women, for operation of the Callaway Junior Golf Tour and for First Tee of West Virginia. The Executive Committee has been recognized nationally as one of the top performing state golf association in the country for the last two years running. Phil is very proud of the work of the West Virginia Golf Association. Last but not least, Phil Reale became the Chairperson of the West Virginia Golf Hall of Fame over five years ago when it was created, and remains the Chairperson to this day. Phil says that if you love something you should immerse yourself in it, and though many people think he is a bit crazy for turning his hobby into just another responsibility. Phil says that when you love something, it can never feel like work to be a part of it.

Phil Reale: West Virginia Beer and Wine Association

As a government relations lawyer, Phil Reale is no stranger to political policy, or working closely with government agencies and legislative bodies. Throughout Phil’s career, he has even developed fundamental relationships with thought leaders and policymakers in West Virginia, helping to both enact, reform, and even implement many of the policies governing the supply, distribution and retail sale of beer and wine in West Virginia today. In addition to serving as government relations consultant and legal counsel to the West Virginia Beer and Wine Association, Phil’s law firm was recently contracted provide an expanded role for the Association. His firm will assume all administrative and executive director functions for the West Virginia Beer and Wine Association. The West Virginia Beer and Wine Association serves as the trade association in West Virginia for distributors of beer and wine products. It functions to serve as an advocate for the members of the Association in areas of public policy development and administrative agency actions. Further, it promotes the responsible use of beer and wine products in West Virginia. The association funds programs such as free cab programs to the wide spread education of underage consumption and all the ramifications that come with it. The association works closely with brewing companies and suppliers large and small, as well as government and local groups to help assure the safety and integrity of the community in terms of consumption of beer and wine products.

Phil Reale has spent much of his career working closely with government policymakers and politics in general. Phil Reale is a veteran West Virginia lawyer who has been a member of the State Bar Association for thirty-seven years. He currently maintains a private practice in Charleston, West Virginia.

Spokesmen for the PhRMA say its members are committed to finding cures for some of society’s most serious diseases, including cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, Cystic Fibrosis, and Parkinson’s. The clinical trials associated with the research for finding these cures, says Phil Reale, “serve to advance the biotechnology industry in our state and the health of our citizens.”

New medicines are an essential part of the healthcare system, Phil Reale says, providing doctors and their patients with safe and effective treatment options, and extending and improving quality of life.
